Good Morning America, on ABC, just had a segment on the “green washing” of products to point out just how the “green” labels are being added to products without proof or corroborating evidence, or certification from an agency that actually certifies “green” products.

One product pointed out, Nestle’s Poland Spring “eco-friendly” bottle. It was singled out not just for the shape, and as they pointed out it does use 30% less plastics, but they also made a point of the fact that trucks are used to haul this product throughout the country, when you could just get it from the tap. I am sure this will be on the the abcnews.com website once the program has ended on all coasts. Take a look at the video. It’s interesting.

Here’s the link to the specific page, http://abcnews.go.com/Health/ConsumerNews/greenwashing-green-claims-accurate/Story?id=8999483&page=2, with the specific text from the ABC website:
“Environmental trade-offs are category No. 3.

Case and “Good Morning America” examined a Poland Spring water bottle that’s marketed as having an eco-shape.

“It actually does use 30 percent less plastic than other bottles. … But you still have this sin of the hidden trade-off. Given that you are shipping this product back and forth across the country, when you could in fact just get it out of your tap,” Case added.

Poland Spring responds that most people drink bottled water when they’re out and don’t have access to their tap, and said its eco-shape bottle is better than any other disposable bottle or cup. ”
