Maine has juice, wine, and bottled water already included in their returnables legislation. I wonder how much that impacts the amount of bottles purchased in Maine that are NOT returned. My guess… they still end up in landfills, or are imported out of state never to be returned or recycled.
John: Bottle bills have been successful in dramatically ramping up the number of bottles recycled in most places they’ve been tried, though I’m not about to give water bottlers a pass even if recycling rates climb. After all, beer and juice don’t pour from faucets.
